Investor Immigration

If you are a non-EU National you can apply for a visa allowing you and your family to live in the UK if you have at least £2 million available to invest in the UK.  The funds must be your own and must have been held for at least three months prior to any investor application. If you have held the funds for less than three months when you apply, you will need to evidence the source of the funds as part of your application. Applications for a Tier 1 Investor visa can be made in the country of your nationality and/or residence. Although the funds don’t need to be in the UK when you make your application, from 6th April 2015, you will need to have an investment account open in the UK and provide evidence of this with your application.

If you are already in the UK with a long-term visa (e.g. as a student or Tier 2 migrant), you may be able to switch into this category from within the UK. The application is considered under Tier 1 of the UK’s Points Based System and requires the applicant to score sufficient points based on their investment funds.

Once the visa has been granted and you have entered the UK, you will have three months to invest the full £2 million into a portfolio of qualifying investments. This includes investments into UK government bonds or share or loan capital in active and trading UK companies.

An initial visa will be granted for three years and can be extended for a further two years initially. If you have maintained an initial investment of £2 million for five years, you may qualify for indefinite leave to remain (permanent residence).

You may qualify for accelerated indefinite leave to remain if you maintain an investment of £10 million over two years in the UK or £5 million over three years.

You can spend up to 180 days (six months) a year outside the UK and still qualify for indefinite leave to remain.
